Twitter Follow Policy

Thanks for considering following me on Twitter. I want to let you know a bit about why I use Twitter and the process I use to decide who to follow.  My hope is to make it clear upfront what you can expect from me.

Purpose

My purposes for using Twitter include:

  • Stay in touch with friends
  • Follow news groups or organizations  in which I am interested for personal or professional reasons
  • Connect with people who share my personal or professional interests
  • I’m looking to learn something, to share what I know, and to have conversations with people who share similar interests.
  • I have no interest in gaining a huge number of followers for its own sake.

Process

It’s pretty simple for me. I will read  your profile, read some of your recent tweets, read the page you link to in you profile, and then decide if I will follow you. I usually follow everyone who follows me unless they fall into one of my don’t follow categories.

Don’t Follow

If I don’t follow you, it is probably not personal. I read every tweet I receive and I would like to keep it that way. It doesn’t make much sense for me to follow people if I don’t read their tweets. So unless your tweets fall into one of these categories, I will probably follow you and continue to follow you:

  • Bots
  • Purely marketing / sales tweets. I expect some marketing but not the majority of tweets.
  • Repeat tweets. Some people seem to have a set of tweets that are on a loop.
  • Obscene, offensive, hateful, argumentative tweets
  • We appear to have no common interests
  • I reserve the right to not follow or block anyone for any reason.
