I wrote an article, 5 Things New Leaders Should Know, in response to my friend’s promotion. Rob Shore commented on it, adding 5 more things new leaders should know. I think Rob’s comments deserve to be added to the list, so I am posting them here for you to read:
6. Though you will be tempted, don’t change anything major (policy/procedure/comp) for 90 days.
7. Everyone will blow smoke up your skirt – fair warning
8. Candor is a valued commodity from direct reports – don’t take it lightly [ I wrote an article about this, called Feedback is a Gift ]
9. Communicate in 360 degrees – down, up and sideways
10. Be direct, succinct, and dish out praise in a 2:1 proportion to criticism.
OK, we’re up to 10 Things New Leaders Should Know – do you have more tips for my friend?

Hi Becki
I’ll add four (I used one of yours in my post so I’ll leave that one out!):
Vision cast in every conversation
Make Courageous Decisions
Your credibility is ALL important
and
Never stop Learning
Paul, interesting point about vision in every conversation. I’d love to hear more about that. Do you have a post to share that expands on that idea?
