Leading people is tough in the best of times, and more so in a tough economy like this one. People are scared; wondering how long this recession will last and if they can make it through with their jobs, families and homes. These fears can create challenges for leaders so I wondered:
What is your biggest leadership challenge in this economy? How are you dealing with these challenges?
Some of the challenges I face as a result of this economy are
- Layoffs
- Hiring freezes
- Soft economy impacts revenues
- Employees are distracted by what’s happening to family and friends
I’m just trying to focus on what I can control and trying to keep my folks focused on what they can control. I keep challenging them to get better at their jobs and focus on improving our performance metrics.
