When looking for a new job you have a big choice to make. Do you keep doing what you’ve been doing or do you leapfrog to where technology is heading? It’s a real choice and one you should think long and hard about before accepting your next job. Jumping just to get out of your current job could put you in the unemployment office in a few years.
I think we’re at one of those tipping points where spending the next 3 -5 years on the same old technology without learning the new technologies, will make you a commodity earning a commodity salary.
Instead, learn to earn. Learn the new technologies of cloud, cloud management, software defined networking (SDN) (this is a few more years out in my opinion), Chef, Puppet, Ruby, JSON, REST API, and the NoSQL databases.
Stay out front and keep your value and salary high.
