Intentions

Recently I’ve had a lot of things pop up that remind me to continue to set intentions and to follow through on them - and that both steps are required to get results.
The way to achieve anything in life is to value the goal, understand the steps required to reach the goal, and the consistent pursuit of it.
It’s as easy and as difficult as that.
The Rich Life
I was most recently reminded of this when watching How to Get Rich on Netflix. Now, I’m not looking to have a financial fortune, but I am looking to live the life I want, which is really the point of the show.
The host, Ramit Sethi, helps people define what their Rich Life is, helps them understand what that will cost, and helps them decide what they will give up to get it. They may have to give up time and get another job, or reduce their expenses, or change their expectations.
Each of the people on the show had to give up the emotional distractions that surround money. That provided clarity so they could face the real costs of their goals, and make realistic decisions.
So once the emotion is removed, money goals are just like any other. Do you want the goal, do you understand the steps required to achieve that goal, and are you going to consistenly pursue it?
Intentions for Your Life
It’s easy to get distracted from consistently working toward your goal without regularly reminding yourself of the why. Why are you exercising? Why are you making your lunch instead of going out? Why are you taking an hour or two every day to study for that certification?
Take a few minutes every morning to write it down.
I’m going to walk 30 minutes today so that I can take care of my health. I’m going to benefit by having better physical and mental health. I’m going to enjoy looking at the sky and the trees and hearing the birds. I always feel better after a walk.
I’m going to make my lunch today so that I can eat healthier and save money. I’m going to use that money to buy a house that I can live in and rent part of it. That will help me save more money so that I can travel to places that I want to explore.
I’m going to take 30 minutes every day to study Spanish so that I can have a better experience when I travel to Central and South America, or when I go to Spain. It’s difficult to learn a new language, but it’s good for my brain health, and I really want to have a good experience when I travel.
Those daily intentions are going to remind you why you’re doing what you’re doing and will help you be consistent. And that’s how you live the life you want to live.
