Morning Intentions

As we begin to re-experience a visceral reconnection with the needs of our bodies, there is a brand new capacity to warmly love the self. We experience a new quality of authenticity in our caring, which redirects our attention to our health, our diets, our energy, our time management. This enhanced care for the self arises spontaneously and naturally, not as a response to a “should.” We are able to experience an immediate and intrinsic pleasure in self care.
– Stephen Cope, Yoga and the Quest for the True Self - quoted in The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk
I began to heal when I reconnected with my body. And I have noticed that care does come about spontaneouly and naturally. You begin to love yourself again. We prioritize, nuture, and protect the things we love, so of course, you prioritize, nuture, and protect yourself.
I begin most mornings by doing about 20 minutes of yoga stretching. I begin in child’s pose and set my intention to be loving and kind to myself so that I can be loving and kind to others.
After I roll up my mat, I make myself a pour over coffee, which is a meditative process in itself. Since it’s summer, I sit in my backyard and listen to the birds and the trees while I enjoy my coffee. I find that taking this time to take care of myself brings me a great deal of peace and joy.
Have you experienced a reconnection to your body? Have you noticed how your priorities have changed?
